St. Mary’s Quick Facts
St. Mary’s Georgia is beautiful city located on the Saint Mary’s river and is considered the gateway to Cumberland Island National Seashore, the largest of the Golden isles.
The Cumberland Island visitor center and boat access are both located at the St. Mary’s waterfront.
The city is also home to the annual St. Mary’s Rock Shrimp Festival, the St. Mary’s Submarine Museum, the Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base, and to eight Ohio-class submarines.
St. Mary’s was recognized by an act of the Georgia legislature on December 5, 1792, with the result of incorporation in November 1802. The population of St. Mary’s was 17,121 at the 2010 census
